Tenant rep – Leasing office space

So, a few years back I decided to jump into the commercial real estate side of things. I had been practicing real estate on the residential side since 2005 when I lived in St. Louis, MO. I started my commercial real estate career as a tenant rep with Con-Real. Now most people would have no idea what a tenant rep is and why would you need one. To put it in simple context, a tenant rep is similar to a buyer’s agent on the real estate side of things. A tenant rep represents business clients with finding commercial real esate space to lease or renewing their current office lease. They can also assist with the acquisition of commercial real estate.

One good thing about hiring a tenant rep is you do not pay their commission. They are paid a commission from the landlord, similar to a buyer’s agent on the residential side. Although I’m not practicing on the commercial side right now, you can easily Google “tenant rep” and start your search there. Having a good tenant rep can potentially save you time and money. Obviously, you want to do your due diligence when choosing a tenant rep to represent you in your office lease negotiations. Just like anything else, there are some that are great at what they do and a few opportunities for others. 🙂
